Uncovered Exchanges Illustrate Jeffrey Epstein and Larry Summers as Close Associates
A series of communications between adjudicated sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein and ex- US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers were released this week, revealing the pair served as confidants.
These exchanges, spanning 2013 to early 2019, show the two men discussing private â and at times questionable â perspectives on politics and personal connections.
I'm struggling to determine why [the] American elite feel if u kill your baby by physical abuse and abandonment it must be irrelevant to your acceptance to Harvard,â|âIâm trying to|I am attempting to|I'm struggling to} determine why [the] American elite feel if u kill your baby by beating and abandonment it must be unimportant to your acceptance to Harvard,â} Summers emailed to Epstein in a 2017 message. However made advances toward a few women 10 years ago and are unable to work at a network or think tank. DO NOT SHARE THIS OBSERVATION.â
During that period, Harvard University was dealing with an acceptance discussion after a formerly incarcerated womanâs enrollment to a PhD program. Summers, a one-time president of the university who lost his position amid a scandal after making sexist comments about women scholars, continued in the email to Epstein: I pointed out that half of the IQ in [the] world was held by women without noting they are more than 51 percent of society.â
Summers was previously a key player in Democratic circles â a ex- treasury secretary in the Clinton administration, one of the main designers of Barack Obamaâs response to the economic downturn, and a committed presence in the progressive media. But concerns have remained about his relationship with Epstein, a long-standing associate of Donald Trump. Epstein was charged with a extensive exploitation operation before his death in jail in 2019 in New York City.
Following the release of a earlier set of emails between Epstein and Summers in a 2023 piece, a representative for Summers stated that he âprofoundly regrets being in contact with Epstein after his legal findingâ.
Democratic Party lawmakers disclosed emails from the Epstein estate this week that indicate Epstein thought Trump was had knowledge of conduct by the now-convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. In response, Republican lawmakers published a more extensive collection of 20,000 emails from the Epstein estate.
The released materials show that Summers continued friendly contact with the convicted child sex trafficker well into 2019, with the last email exchange occurring only months before Epsteinâs apprehension.
Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday that he would be instructing the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate Epsteinâs ârole and relationshipâ with Summers, among other well-known Democrats and industry figures.
In the emails, Summers and Epstein discuss politics â especially Summersâs contempt for Trump â as well as the details of charitable social networking â and women. Summers, 70, disclosed to Epstein in a 2019 exchange about his advances toward an unidentified woman, and being turned down.
âshe is clever. ensuring you atone for previous missteps,â Epstein responded in an exchange on 16 March. âoverlook the 'daddy' remark, I'm dating the motorcycle guy, you responded appropriately.. frustration signals affection., no protests revealed fortitude.â
Summers affirmed his sorrow in a recent statement. âI harbor significant regrets in my lifetime,â he wrote. âIâve expressed this previously: my relationship with Jeffrey Epstein was a grave mistake.â
Summers was president of Harvard University from 2001 to 2006. Epstein donated more than $9m to Harvard and its related programs between 1998 and 2008, and was named a visiting fellow to conduct research. The university later concluded Epstein âwas missing the academic qualifications visiting fellows typically possess and his application suggested a course of study Epstein was not prepared to pursueâ.
Harvard only stopped accepting Epsteinâs donations after he admitted guilt to child sex offenses in 2008.
At that point Obamaâs profile was growing. Summers would eventually win appointment as director of the White House economic advisory body from January 2009 until November 2010.
After Summers left the White House, he began requesting Epstein for philanthropic advice for his wife, Elisa New, a Harvard professor developing a poetry project. Epstein and his foundations made gifts to projects connected to Summersâs wife, and the two men saw each other a twelve times between 2013 and 2016, often for dinner.
After news about Epsteinâs donations emerged, Newâs charity made a donation âmore thanâ of that received to anti-exploitation organizations.
