The Merseyside club Refuses to Abandon Offensive Approach In the Face of Recent Slump, Says Arne Slot

The Dutch manager has stated that the club's hierarchy share his views regarding the poor performance streak and he will not abandon their offensive approach in pursuit of a turnaround. The head coach admitted that six unsuccessful results in seven outings was not good enough ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Pressure Mounting During Tough Spell

Slot accepted the expectations were high before his rotated squad suffered Carabao Cup elimination against their Premier League rivals. However, he insisted that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the club's ownership or management structure following a significant spending of approximately £450 million.

"Our views align," stated the Liverpool boss, whose squad will encounter Real Madrid in the continental tournament and visit the Citizens in the domestic competition.

Squad Quality Remains Unquestioned

Slot believes his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are completely available and completely set for the fixture list". He said that the transfer window acquisitions in footballers like the German international and Alexander Isak, who is likely to miss out again against the Birmingham club through physical problems, had left the club "in a strong situation for the short-term future and the years to come".

Team Cohesion Issues

When asked why his team were taking so long to gel, he responded: "That question isn't constructive. 'What's causing this?' I provide reasons and people say I'm making justifications. I can list five or six reasons why we are underperforming or experiencing losses as we do but, as I say every time, there are never enough excuses to have a performance streak as we had now."

  • Even if I could identify multiple factors
  • As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
  • In truth six losses from seven matches

Defensive Numbers

Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have faced more big chances from open play this season than Liverpool (19). The league leaders, the North London club, have faced two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and maintains there is no reason to abandon offensive philosophy for a defensive approach after 10 games without a goalless performance.

"From my perspective we don't allowing many opportunities so I don't see a reason to alter our approach entirely but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he said.

Specific Instances

"When facing United, how many opportunities did we allow? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were leading 3-1, we barely allowed a shot on target. In each fixture we played until now we haven't given up a many opportunities. Definitely not. We do concede a slightly more than the previous campaign but that has to do with us being behind early so you become more adventurous. But typically I don't believe that our problem is that we allow too many opportunities. Our issue is we fail to convert the chances we create."
