Jennifer Lawrence States Discussing Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer suitable to voice opinions countering the Trump presidency, concerned it could exacerbate unhelpful debate and increase separation across the nation.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Lawrence
During a discussion, Lawrence shared, “When Trump was first in office, I thought I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars do not make a difference at all on who people vote for.”
She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on a matter that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”
Political Evolution
The actress has admitted freely about voting for both conservative and liberal contenders over the years. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and stating she understood during the Obama era that backing conservatives was undermining her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she stated that Donald Trump’s election could represent “the end of the world” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “since I feel she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will take all necessary steps to protect abortion access.”
Industry Position
The star was aligned with numerous celebrities in her rejection of the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence celebrities have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term seems distinct,” commented she regarding his administration. “As he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting the drama, the filmmaker’s project in which she portrays a new mother who struggles with her psychological well-being in a remote area. At a media event for the film in Venice, she addressed the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Broader Concerns
The actress elaborated by stating that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discussions of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”
The actor aimed to shift anger about the issue to leaders rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she said, which was interpreted as a allusion to the recent commitment signed by more than 4,000 arts community members to avoid Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her role in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in her latest project. Although Lynne Ramsay has rejected the story being seen as one of postpartum depression and mental illness, the actress shared that she connected with aspects of her film narrative after the birth of her second son, shortly after filming concluded.
“It was fear for my son,” she said, “envisioning every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a treatment called Zurzuvae and I continued it for 14 days and it really helped.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also discussed about the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the project while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
