Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.
The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.
And both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.
However the ex- Luton head coach - who made over a century of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is said to have support from the Wolves board as they start the process of appointing a new head coach.
Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by the club in December last year.
The ex- West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
