Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
